Dr. Mostafa Amiri, MD
Neurologist & Fellowship-Trained Sleep Medicine Specialist
Online Sleep & Life Consultant for the Iranian Diaspora – Working Worldwide
I am a board-certified neurologist and fellowship-trained sleep medicine specialist with over 12 years of focused experience in sleep disorders. Over this time, I have personally evaluated and treated more than 6,700 patients and performed and interpreted over 2,000 full-night polysomnography (overnight sleep studies).
My clinical work is dedicated almost entirely to sleep medicine and the psychological and lifestyle issues that surround it. I help adults, couples, and families overcome chronic insomnia, restless and non-restorative sleep, sleep apnea, circadian rhythm problems, anxiety-related sleep disturbance, and stress-driven exhaustion.
I practice in both Farsi and English, with a special focus on Iranians living abroad who want high-level, evidence-based care in their own language and cultural context.
What I Do
I provide specialized, clinically grounded care for people who struggle with:
- Chronic insomnia – difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking too early
- Sleep apnea and snoring – online assessment, treatment guidance, and interpretation of sleep studies
- Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) and periodic limb movements in sleep
- Nightmares, anxiety-related sleep disturbance, and trauma-linked sleep problems
- Circadian rhythm issues – shift work, irregular schedules, jet lag, delayed sleep phase
- Daytime sleepiness, fatigue, brain fog, and reduced concentration caused by disrupted sleep
My main therapeutic tools include:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)
- Structured sleep-retraining programs
- Psychoeducation about sleep, brain function, and stress
- Lifestyle and behavioral adjustments tailored to real life (work, family, migration, time zones)
I do not routinely accept patients whose primary problem is Parkinson’s disease, seizure disorders, or other complex neurological diseases. My focus is on sleep disorders and related psychological, cognitive, and lifestyle challenges. When such conditions are present, I usually collaborate with or refer to local treating neurologists.
Beyond Sleep: Personal, Focus & Parenting Consultations
Because of my background in neurology, psychology, and sleep, many people also seek my help for broader life and mind-related questions. In addition to sleep medicine, I offer:
- Personal and lifestyle consultations
Support for managing stress, reshaping daily routines, setting healthy boundaries, and building a life structure that protects sleep, energy, and mental clarity. - Specialized consultations for attention and focus difficulties in adults
For individuals who struggle with distractibility, procrastination, poor follow-through, or suspected attention-related disorders. I help them understand their patterns and design realistic strategies to improve focus and productivity. - Parenting consultations
Guidance for parents on children’s and adolescents’ sleep routines, screen use, boundaries, emotional regulation, and creating a calmer home environment that supports both the child’s and the parents’ wellbeing.
These consultations are designed to connect the dots between brain, behavior, sleep, and daily life, so that changes are not just theoretical but actually workable.
A Focus on Iranians Living Abroad 🌍
Many of my patients are Iranian Americans, Iranian Canadians, and Iranians across Europe and the Middle East who face unique sleep and adjustment challenges:
- Migration and acculturative stress
- Late-night communication with family in Iran across time zones
- Academic and career pressure in a new environment
- Emotional weight of separation, uncertainty, and “starting over”
My sessions are culturally sensitive, direct, and practical, respecting Iranian family dynamics, values, and lifestyle while fully aligned with international standards in sleep medicine and psychological care.
How I Work
My approach is personalized, scientific, and deeply human. There is no template; each person brings a different nervous system, history, and life context.
In practice, this means:
- Humanized care – You are not a case file. Your fears, habits, family story, migration journey, and goals are central to the plan.
- Scientific grounding – I rely on updated sleep-medicine research, polysomnography data, and neurological knowledge to guide decisions.
- Cultural understanding – I understand the language, humor, and pressures of the Iranian and Middle Eastern diaspora, and I integrate that into every recommendation.
- Collaborative planning – We design your strategy together, combining structured tools like CBT-I with realistic solutions for your real schedule (children, shift work, travel, time zones, exams, deadlines).
My aim is not only to fix “sleep hours,” but to help you build a sustainable rhythm of life that supports long-term health, clarity, and emotional stability.
